Sanford Cloud, Jr., lawyer, public servant and business leader, has served Hartford and the State of Connecticut in many diverse ways including, but not limited to, playing a major role in the development of Upper Albany Shopping Center and the Crown Gardens housing development in Hartford. In addition, he led Aetna’s national Neighborhood Development Program in the 1980s, and oversaw the investments exceeding $100 million dollars which transformed several urban neighborhoods across the country. Most of the Neighborhood Development Program initiatives included mixed-use and mixed income projects leveraging HUD funds, state and local funding, as well as conventional financing. During his tenure as a Connecticut State Senator, he was the primary sponsor of legislation creating the State’s first Department of Housing as well as enhancing the State’s Plan for Conservation and Development. As President and CEO of The National Conference of Community and Justice, he led the organization in its mission of fighting bias, bigotry and racism in America and promoting respect and understanding among all races, religions and cultures. He is a former partner in the law firm of Robinson + Cole. He has served on several public, private company and community boards, including serving as Lead Director of the Board of Eversource Energy, from which he recently retired, and is Chair of the Board of UCONN Health Center and a member of the UCONN Board of Trustees.
